The Grade 8 Gala was truly one of the most exciting and memorable events on our school calendar. The four tribes, Terra, Aqua, Ignus and Ventus, all showed up ready to compete and represent their colours with confidence. The chants echoed across the pool area as each tribe tried to out cheer the others. The energy from the stands motivated the swimmers to give their absolute best in every race. In the end, Aqua had an outstanding evening and proudly won both the Spirit Trophy and the Swimming Trophy. Their teamwork, determination and enthusiasm were clearly visible throughout the night, and their victory was well deserved.
The support from parents made the evening even more meaningful. Many parents came to watch and cheer, filling the stands with encouragement and applause. Their presence showed just how important events like these are in building a strong school community. They dedicated their time and effort to organising, planning and making sure that the event was filled with energy and school pride. Their leadership and commitment did not go unnoticed. Lingomso Gadu, one of the councillors, shared, “Spirit is always the best thing about these events because it’s just when people come together, let loose and have fun, and we become one you know.” This quote perfectly captures the heart of the gala, where learners, parents and staff all came together as one community.
The Grade 8 learners themselves expressed how much they enjoyed the experience. Wandile Tapera said, “It was really cool and exciting to see how Fourways does spirit and I had a good time.” His words reflect how welcoming and enjoyable the evening was for the new students.
