Since joining Fourways High School this year, Mr. Chimanyi has brought remarkable changes as the new Facilities Manager. With a background in project management and a passion for community service, Mr. Chimanyi has significantly enhanced the school’s appearance and functionality.
His journey began with a desire to contribute to the high school environment and shape future leaders. “My overall passion for the high school environment & my desire to want to contribute to the upbringing of our future leaders,” he said. His role in the School Governing Body(SGB) and experience in construction have been invaluable in managing the school’s facilities.
One of his proudest achievements is the installation of the new stainless steel balustrade at the multipurpose courts. This project, along with ongoing renovations, has gathered positive feedback from the school community. “The quality of the workmanship in our new multipurpose courts and the ongoing painting has got our school community taking notice of the lovely facility that we have,” he shared.
A typical day for Mr. Chimanyi involves coordinating with his team and ensuring the quality of their work. He emphasizes the importance of pride and appreciation, stating, “Through teaching my team members to take pride in the quality of their work & managing the time spent on tasks, most importantly through appreciating them for their hard work. But also teaching them that constructive criticism is part of the learning process.” This approach has fostered a positive attitude among his staff.
Looking ahead, Mr. Chimanyi envisions continued improvements, driven by the collective vision of the School Governing Body. He aims to balance cost-effective projects with enhancing the school’s aesthetics to attract more students. “We have a wish list of exciting projects that could add significant value,” he said.
In his short time at Fourways High, Mr. Chimanyi has not only improved the facilities but also contributed to the school spirit. He enjoys watching sports fixtures and believes a well-kept environment boosts the school’s overall culture. His dedication and vision are set to leave a lasting legacy at Fourways High School.
Additionally, he mentioned a fun fact: “I just wonder in my mind what the students’ thoughts are on the rabbits that live on the sports fields? Or maybe the question is, how many students know that there are rabbits that live on our sports fields?”
