Class of 2028! Let me tell you, what feels so far away is so nearby. The days feel so long but the years go by so quickly and before you know it, you’ll be finished with high school. So, my piece of advice to you would be to live in the moment, meet new people and most importantly… DO YOUR HOMEWORK ON TIME!
Many matrics are stuck trying to release themselves from the bondage of procrastination simply because they didn’t start the habit of staying up to date from day one of Grade 8.
Take it from me, a matric student who was once in Grade 8 myself, when I say that I wish that I had learned to be proactive years ago. This would have made my life a whole lot less hectic. Another one of my tips would be to get as involved as possible. Whether that’s in sports, culture, service, or leadership because there is absolutely a space for everybody at Fourways High School.
The first term is always the bumpiest part of the Grade 8 journey, but I promise you it gets better and easier. Grade 8 may even end up being the best year of school you’ve ever had!
I spent my Grade 8 year in lockdown because of COVID-19 so I did not get to really experience my first year of high school in its entirety.
As a councillor, it was the most fulfilling feeling to be with the Grade 8s during their Orientation. To see so many young students, eager and excited for their first year being Fourways Legends was a marvel to watch.
Their first day of Orientation was filled with laughter and excitement from the numerous games that they played throughout the day. To say that it was a success would be a massive understatement. The following day, they were introduced to our different extra murals which sparked an interest in many of them. Their Orientation ended with the annual Barn Dance which one even described as “the best night of his life”! The Barn Dance was a fun excuse to dress up and get down on the dance floor.
So, class of 2028, or better known as the “World Cup kids”, I hope that this year turns out to be everything you’ve ever dreamed it to be and more. I hope that this year, you are willing to throw yourselves far out of your comfort zones by trying new things. I hope that you start to lay the groundwork now for the seniors that you will soon become and work hard. But most importantly, I hope that your year is filled with joy and excitement. Don’t count the days, make the days count.
