Entrepreneurs Combine Profit with Purpose, Donate to Charity

On 14 March 2025, Fourways High School saw its biggest Market Day with 21 stalls participating during the break. Ms Brown, the Teacher in Charge (TIC), commented: “Approximately R30 000 was made by the entrepreneurs in the span of 30 minutes, which is insane!”

The Entrepreneurs’ Club has set the bar high for Market Days in 2025. For the first time in years, the stalls were set up in both the B and C quads of the school. The Entrepreneurs’ Club is closely linked to the school’s Commerce Department, which aims to empower learners to develop and enhance their entrepreneurial skills. Students learn valuable skills in running a business and develop communication skills by convincing fellow students and teachers to buy their products.

Learners participating in Market Days must sign contracts, just like in the real business world, to ensure that all products, specifically food and drinks, being sold align with health protocols provided by the Department of Education. The entrepreneurs get to keep all their earnings, but as stipulated in their contracts, they must donate 10% of their earnings to charity as part of their social responsibility. The entrepreneurs raised R2050 for the Randburg SPCA and R680 for the Fourways High Student Development Programme.

The Club also has its own Entrepreneur Committee, which consists of students who ensure that Market Days run smoothly. With the committee consisting of matric students, Ms Brown had to bid farewell to Teagan Greyling as Chairperson, Naledi Mocoancoeng as Second Chairperson and Liaison, Bonolo Zulu as Liaison, Mitha Kamhanda as Logistics Manager, Matthew Schertel as Head of Design, and Mahlohlonolo Dhlamini as Finance Officer. Naledi shared: “Being a part of this group and stepping down from our positions fills me with gratitude. We had the most memorable years in this committee. This club has instilled innovation, creativity, passion, and supportiveness. As we pass it on to the next group, I’m confident it will continue to thrive, and I would love to thank Ms Brown for this opportunity.”

With a new committee and a rapidly growing club, Market Days at Fourways High will be seeing new heights this year!
