Underappreciated and overlooked, often dismissed, and ignored. They are the unsung heroes of our school. These are students who often work in the background and don’t take centre stage. Yet without them, our school would not run as smoothly as it does. They are First aid, Sound and Lighting as well as the Photography Club.
The First Aid team provides an integral role in the Service pillar of our school. They ensure the safety of our students during sports as students are taught how to correctly administer the necessary help. Many of the students involved in First Aid have an interest in extending their medical careers after high school. They can apply what they learn during their training and serve those around them who are in need. Without First Aid, our injured students would not be able to receive the on-scene treatment that they need.
Remember all the music, sounds and bright lights that you’ve seen around you during school events? Ever wonder who creates all of that? The Sound and Lighting team. They do the sound and the lighting for every single event at Fourways High School. I’ve seen them work late and early hours where they are the first to arrive and the last to leave. Being apart of this team takes nothing short of a committed effort to make the school a better and more exciting place. The school events that they are involved in range from our school assemblies and prize givings to our Major Production and Talent Show with many more of course. Without them, our school would be a lot less vibrant and a lot quieter.
All the captivating photos that you’ve seen in the matric yearbook, in the Legends Magazine or even around our school on our various boards, are taken by our student photographers. Photography is a skill that is developed into a talent that our school needs and should begin to appreciate much more. They refer to themselves as “the eyes of the school” as they capture beautiful moments from the various events that happen at our school. They are a vital element to the functioning of our school and don’t get nearly enough of the credit that they deserve. Without them, who would capture these authentic moments of our school?
We need to give the students and teachers involved in each of these extra murals their “flowers” while we still can. Dismissing them and their hard work is a “trend” that’s gone on for far too long. They each form an imperative part of the various spheres of the school that they are apart of. You are all greatly appreciated!
