It seems like only a minute ago that Mr Holliday welcomed us to 2023,and then the school year was drawing to a close. It is a good time to reflect on the past year of learning, growth and experience. I speak for everyone when I say that 2023 was eventful. It has been full of sad and happy moments.
As students, we got caught up in the unspoken competition of academics. We got wrapped up in the pressure of academic success. We forgot to look in the mirror and tell ourselves that we were beautiful, and we waited for someone else to validate us.
Take some time and look at your grades. If you are not happy with those marks, this is the year to make an academic comeback. Studying is not meant to be a competition between you and another person, it is a competition between you and your own abilities.
Time flies by when you are having fun, and if you are not careful it will pass you by. It was just yesterday when we were so excited come to Derby Days to sing the never-ending Fourways Call, and the Reds and Blues that make a monster, the camaraderie at its peak. Just an hour ago, when we stood in front of the school to say the councillor’s pledge.
Fourways High is a community where relations are formed. Despite the loss of a brother, a staff member, a friend and a colleague, Lawrence Nzama, new friendship and relationships are forged between students and teachers. We have become so close that it is now so difficult to say goodbye to the teachers who will be leaving the Fourways family .
Grade 12 and Grade 11 of 2023, we have little time left in school … let’s use it to make it memorable for us and our teachers.
