On the 26th to the 28th of October 2022, two of our very own legends Risuna Mashele and Tsholofelo Mohulatsi represented South Africa for Hip Hop dance at the IDO World Championships in Graz, Austria.
While sharing one passion for dance, Risuna and Tsholofelo have had very different journeys in their dance careers. While initially doing ballet, Risuna started dancing when she was 5 years old, but in 2018 switched to Hip Hop. She made this transition to Hip Hop in honour of her late brother, who was very passionate about this dance style and taught Risuna some of the moves she knows today.
Clearly mothers know best, as Tsholofelo was motivated by her mother to start dancing as she used to tell everyone of how great of a dancer her daughter was. Travelling to compete in Austria, is something that Tsholofelo will cherish forever as she describes it as “one of her happiest moments.”
Both legends have gone on to collect many accolades with their highest achievement being receiving their National Protea Colours. Even with achieving so much success at young ages, both are hoping and working hard towards qualifying and representing South Africa for the second time at the Dance World Championships.
Congratulations to both ladies, and we have no doubt that they are just a few 8 counts away from representing our country once again!
