Have you ever attended a school event where the music was played at the perfect moment, or the lights were bright and perfectly coordinated? Well, that’s all down to the magic of the Sound and Lighting crew! These unseen legends ensure every school event is seen and heard by everyone.
The Fourways High pupils who are part of this team deal with advanced technical equipment such as DI boxes, kettle plugs, various types of microphones, XLR cables and other technology. Learners interested in undertaking this activity receive training from Mr Clayton, the Teacher In Charge (TIC) of the Sound and Lighting team, and the senior members. This training helps them develop the technical skills needed, as setting up for school events takes a lot of practice and patience.
By participating in this service activity, learners gain practical skills in technology, discipline, time management, and teamwork – all valuable assets for their future. The Fourways High Sound and Lighting pupils were even lucky enough to host the Johannesburg North District prize-giving ceremony, and selected members of the team were offered a contract to assist with the technical aspects at the Johannesburg Theatre.
In addition to studying hard, high school is a crucial time to acquire practical skills that will benefit you in the real world. Service activities like Sound and Lighting are often underestimated, yet they are vital in ensuring school events run smoothly.
