My Love Affair with Volleyball at Fourways High

In the hustle and bustle of high school life, we all seek solace, a sanctuary that breathes life into our spirits. For me, that haven was found in the powerful embrace of volleyball. From the moment I stepped onto the court in grade 8 at Fourways High School, I knew I had discovered my passion. For me, volleyball is more than just a sport; it’s my refuge, my therapy, my heartbeat.

On the court, I found a space where I could scream, where every powerful hit of the ball was an expression of my innermost emotions. Volleyball allowed me to dive headfirst into life, face challenges head-on, and come out stronger. Even when injuries threatened to sideline me, I refused to let go of the game that had become my lifeline.

Throughout my journey, behind every spike and dive there were mentors who guided my journey. Among them, one teacher stood out – Miss Hayter, who was a guiding light, a mentor who truly understood and inspired me. Miss Hayter was a teacher who shared my passion, my ups, and downs, became more than an instructor; she was my confidante. She breathed life into my high school career, always checking up on me and pushing me to be my best.

As the pressure of academics and life grew in grade 11, I had to temporarily step away from volleyball. The absence left an emptiness, a void, and I lost touch with my therapy, my heart. The question remains: Will I return to the sport that once mended my spirit, rekindled my hope, and kept me going? It’s a decision that will define not only my high school experience but also the path I choose to follow. Volleyball, once my therapy, still holds a special place in my heart, waiting to be rediscovered.
