Test after test and assignment after assignment, when can we find time to do the things we enjoy? Jaedon Lambela a grade 10 learner here at Fourways High School has managed to find the balance between school and his hobbies.
Jaedon started making comics in grade 4 and since then he has made 53 comics. His most recent comic is a fantasy called Extra Ordinary with a determined villain, magical shards and ancient titans. Using Pinterest as inspiration, Jaedon has created digital, pencil and pro marker comics that help him express himself and escape from the stress of high school. In an interview with Jaedon I got to sit down with him and ask how he manages to balance it all. It may seem like Jaedon has it all figured out but he admitted that he still struggles with balancing school, sports and his comics.
He shared some tips with me that have helped him and could just work for you too:
- Time management, there are only 24 hours in a day and although that might seem like a lot, those hours can go by in the blink of an eye. Managing your time will give you the opportunity to get your work done and still have time to relax and focus on your hobbies.
- Procrastination, we are all guilty of sitting on our phones or in front of the TV watching the hours go by. Setting daily limits on your devices can help you limit your screen time to be more productive and focus on other things that you might enjoy doing.
- Routine, it is important to build a routine that helps you balance all your daily tasks and your relaxation time. A routine will make it easier for you to see what you need to get done for the day.
School can be stressful and time consuming but it is important to find a balance to avoid getting overwhelmed. Take time out of your day to relax and forget about school, not only through art but through anything that interests you. The secret to having it all……is to find the correct balance with all aspects in your life.
