Netball is a fast-paced and exciting sport that has been gaining popularity around the world. Originating in England in the late 19th century, netball is now played by millions of people in over 80 countries worldwide.
Netball is a team sport played on a rectangular court with two teams of seven players each. The aim of the game is to score points by passing a ball from player to player and shooting it through a hoop at the end of the court. Players are not allowed to move with the ball, so they must pass it quickly and accurately to keep it in play.
One of the unique features of netball is that each player has a specific position on the court with different roles and responsibilities. The positions are goal shooter, goal attack, wing attack, centre, wing defence, goal defence, and goalkeeper.
One of the reasons netball has become so popular around the world is its accessibility. It is a sport that can be played by people of all ages and abilities, from young children learning the basics to elite athletes competing at the highest level. Netball is also a great way to stay fit and healthy with players requiring a combination of speed, agility, and endurance skills to perform at their best.
Here at Fourways High, we have excellent netball players who strive for the greatest, and although there have been some lessons learned at the derby days and at different venues, they don’t stop believing in themselves and their teammates. They continue to do their best and never lose their spirit.
